Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!

Soo...was reading Fr. Ben's blog and found out that the Romans are going to basically re-institute the Inquisition, only this time they're looking for those pesky homosexuals.

C'mon folks, didn't we learn the first time around that this doesn't quite work out the way we hoped it would?

According to the articles these "investigators" will be looking specifically at those priests who exhibit "effeminate behavior" I'd be very interested to see the official procedural manual, in canonical legalese. Their plan is to cull all such suspects while still in seminary.

C'mon, if there were really that many gay priests don't you think that the liturgy and music of the RC church would be significantly more tasteful? I daresay that we'd have either Tallis or Andrew Lloyd Webber at every service. And the inscence would smell much less like something you bought for 5.00 in a headshop at the corner of 77th and Troost.

I suppose that they will embrace the same forgiveness doctrine that they supposedly preach, unless the priest in question is of Jewish descent.

Kudos to the C of E for not killing or persecuting anyone, very much, this century!

The part I don't get is this: Jesus travelled with the poor and broke bread with sinners. How is it that that message got lost? It's not just the Catholic Church's fault. It's the fault of all denominations for preaching Pauline Christianity and not Jesus Christianity.

Seriously. Read your New Testament. There are huge differences between the teachings of Jesus and the those of Paul.

Hmmmmm....

David Sedaris made a valid point in his newest book on this very subject. The problem he saw, and that I agree with is confusing, and in this case grouping, sexual pedophilia with homosexuality. They're trying to blame a broader problem on one specific group which they have despised for centuries.

Our chief weapon is fear. Fear and suprise....... Amongst our weaponry are fear, surprise, an almost fantatical devotion to the pope, and nice red uniforms...aw damn.

Good news! This week the NYT published a follow up article in which it said that Jesuit leaders from the U.S. were planning a trip to Rome to voice their objections to the proposed document. Seems they don't care what their religious are abstaining from, so long as they're abstaining. Which goes to show that the Jesuits are still the coolest of the Romans. When I was in seminary, the Jesuits always threw the best parties. Better by far than the Fransiscans, which probably irritates St. Francis no end. Also better than the Episcopalians, which is personally sad and something I've made it a sub-plot of my life to remedy...
